Ty very informative
@lesleyrobertson5465 thank you for watching. I'm glad you enjoyed it.
Many people must have been complicit in this scandal, not least the owners. The accounts of witnesses of goings on were ignored for years. Back handers, brown envelopes must have been rife. Coutts I suspect, had agreed to keep his mouth shut re where the money went on the understanding that the inevitable prison sentence would be lenient.
@neilmutch4100 it's certainly seemed like that to me too. Thank you so much for watching the video.
@@scotlandshistory Thanks for making the video. I did some research too, and read the hand written notes of the court case, as I'm sure you did. Very interesting.
@neilmutch4100 for sure. I was horrified by the whole affair and I really felt it for the families.
I know a few that were missed.
Thank you for watching. I could only go on the information I had but a few had very little so were left out.
It's not a city.
@@johnmcguire1792 it's an ecclesiastical city. Thank you for watching.
@@scotlandshistory awsome doc
@johnmcguire1792 thank you!
The "Black Dinner" was notable because it violated the rule of hospitality, an ethical standard of Scotland,
That's right. It would never have crossed their minds that they weren't safe, although others had their reservations. Thank you for watching.
Wasn;t,it dangerous of Mary to nurse a smallpox patient?
Yes it would've been unless she'd had it before and had built up immunity. Thank you so much for watching the video.
I hope these poor soul's all have peace. I live in Dumfries & feel there should be a monument to them on the Whitesands. After all, there was a public apology to them, not that it makes an ounce of difference. Bless them. XXX
People have been asking for one, so hopefully it'll happen. Thank you so much for watching their story.
@@scotlandshistory Finger's crossed doll.
Accusations of witchcraft appear to be about stealing someone's land as in Salem.
Yes, it was used as an excuse a lot of the time. Thank you so much for watching the video.
@@scotlandshistory Loved it x
@susannahhunt100 thank you x
It seems to me that they were charged because they had property, or goods that someone else wanted. Perhaps people were jealous of what they owned. Witchcraft was a convenient crime.
I agree. It could be manipulated for anything. Thank you so much for watching their story.
Great episode! Always enlightening. Cheers from Oz.
@tomtomtom7200 thank you so much. It was a really dark time in our history.
Religion has held us back for so long, its crazy.
It certainly has a lot to answer for. Thank you so much for watching the video.
Can you imagine the karma you'd get for doing that to these spiritual women? Yikes.
I can. Thank you so much for watching their story.
❤ 😢😢😢❤ a historic and horrifying upload byt as always very well done x
It was terrible what happened at that time. Thank you so much for watching x
Another really interesting video. James VI has hell of a lot to answer for.
He was brutal. Thank you so much for watching Claire x
The most shocking thing for me is that this was 400 years ago. Yet it feels like something we should have abandoned millennia ago.
@joannabaparileszczynska I know and totally agree with you. Thank you so much for watching their story.
Those poor women. This was so wrong, anyone who thinks king James was a good king/person should have their heids looked at 😞 Thanks for the video 🙂
@@waynekerrgoodstyle thank you so much for watching their story. It was a terrible time, and people were genuinely living in fear because of it.

I've been to the Ring of Brodgar. It is certainly a really interesting place. It has such a great atmosphere, and so much history.
It does, especially when it's quiet, but it's a bit of a tourist trap, and can be very busy. Thanks so much for watching Claire x
@@scotlandshistory Yeah, I think that I was lucky, when I visited. It wasn't too busy. I found it with Scara Brae, it was very busy, with three coaches showing up when I was there, even though I was early on a Sunday.
@AScottishOdyssey it's incredibly busy! Yet there are other sites that are just as interesting and barely a soul there. Maeshowe is like Scara Brae now too.
@@scotlandshistory I managed to visit Maes Howe, and it was stunning. I also manged to get to Knapp of Hower, on Papa Westery, and I had the whole site to myself.
@AScottishOdyssey the outer islands are so much less busy. It's great but I haven't manged to get there yet.

Being several thousand years old, my guess is that the burial mounds were looted at some point.

My Mother's family were such travelers. I never really knew my Grandfather but was often looked after by my Granny as a child and lived very close to her as an adult. She lived in Durham during the winter on a municipal spot. In the winter her family would travel in Scotland. Until she emigrated to Canada between the two world wars, she had never lived in a house. She certainly had no romantic notions about the lifestyle that the Romany people were forced into.
Thank you for sharing that. It's always good to hear stories such as hers. It would've been a huge change for her. I hope she had a good life in Canada.
@@scotlandshistory Yes she did. She lived to be 99. I don't think that she would have had the same longevity if she was on the road.
